Subject: there is no "me" in threesome..

okay, there is a "me" in threesome but you guys sure did muck up a thread about MY concern about MY mom's cancer with your juvenile little jokes about group sex. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Raspberry danish and all that...

I just returned from meeting my wife and boys down in the outer banks of North Carolina where they were finishing a 17-day trip chalk full of beaching and swimming and fishing and shrimping and clamming...just prior to that, I was deeply into July 4th Freedom Tower cornerstone ceremony mode -- put in about 80 hours of work that week. So, me being out of pocket really had nothing to do with mom but other commitments.

anyway - here's the update. My mom suffers with invasive lobular carcinoma -- a rarer (but increasingly well understood) form of breast cancer. It is in the skin of one breast but luckily has not spread anywhere else. She got word of the non-spreading nature of the cancer on Tuesday and began chemotherapy on Friday. I think I may have already said this, but despite my initial worries about them doing chemo prior to surgery, this is indeed the newer standard for treatment of this form of cancer.

Friday was the first of eight chemo treatments, each followed by a three week respite -- well all but the last dose which hopefully will be followed by a decades long respite. After that, it is masectomy followed by radiation and hopefully she'll be out of the woods. I spoke with her yesterday and she sounded in fine spirits although starting to get weary -- apparently that will increase until Friday when the fatigue will be at its worst. She is taking chemo that is dubbed "red devil" -- how nice is that? Sounds yucky and the intensity of all this is contained in the fact that the toilet seat has to get a good cleaning after each use by her - lest the next occupant come in contact with it.

Anyway, I'm going to figure out the best time for me to be down there with her and book a ticket - probably without the family in tow. It's too bad she won't be able to see Zeke for awhile (she was supposed to fly in this Thursday for a ten-day visit with us). He's really at that 13-14 month, "hey, ain't I the bee's knees" stage. Just a fun, fun little kid -- and an absolute "dive-bombing-from-the-bed, bucketfuls-of-sand-eating, I-dance-like-Stevie-Wonder" maniac.
