We put together a good old-fashioned superhero party. Mrs. Baloney made capes for the attendees - they were prety darn good. She also cut out paper superhero masks that they got to decorate. Sam's superhero character name was Fire Explode.

He got a lot of presents, but I was particularly proud of my work in securing a copy of the original Superman the Movie starring Reeve, Brando, Hackman, et al - I even noticed none other than Cliffie Clavin with a bit role. It was a bitch trying to get a copy - finally had to resort to the ebay route. Anyway, they should make an adult and kiddie version of that flick. The adult version is pretty much as is, the kiddie version would knock it down to one hour -- basically, you tell the tots that Superman was born on an exploding planet, Superbaby's parents sent him off to earth in a rocket ship and after awhile, he knitted his own costume, called himself Superman and flew around saying people. Oh, and we parents could do without the scene in which Lois is killed only to have Superman fly around the earth as a way of turning back the clock. I didn't understand how he pulled that one off. I sure as hell couldn't explain it to a newly minted five-year-old.
