Subject: Ok Ladies. I need help! I've been asked to give a mini lesson during Enrichment night next Tues (M)

It's only 8-10 minutes long so I don't know why I'm stressing so bad. The topic is Strengthening Home and Family. AAACK! It's too broad! How do I narrow this down? I also have to decorate the table. Ugh. and provide a treat or handout.

Please, Please, give me ideas here or by email rowntree@networld.com

Thanks in advance!
Lynece

[> I might just be of some assistance for you.....m -- Joanne, 14:21:48 10/01/03 Wed

Strengthening Home & Family - When I did the same lesson yrs ago, I concentrated on keeping the home a piece of Heaven. Basically, we are to be working on our home being like our celestial homes - and our homes should be a haven against all the evil found outside our doors. Because we do this, other people will feel of the spirit when they enter within and that can be used as a missionary tool. I also went into doing our geneology and including our children in that work, too.

My table decorations were my lazy susan that sits on our table in the kitchen - it is made of wood, has Families are Forever written around the outside of it and has a little painted person for each member of our family. I also included pictures of our family, the Saviour and esp our ancestors - you could include something simple that your family likes to do together (if you like to bake cookies, strew some cookie cutters amongst the items). Another thing that I brought was our Family Home Evening shelf (what we use to make sure we are all taking turns doing things on that night).

A handout - or treat - hmmmmm...you can find a little quote or saying about how families are supposed to be unified and respect differences or something and put it on a recipe card. Use a sticker for the corner. Or make it a bookmark - there's a free bookmark place on the web that you can download and print off for free. If you want it, let me know. I use it when making gifts for other people.

[> There was a Young Woman's lesson that I taught on this(m) -- Sheila, 16:34:07 10/02/03 Thu

It was about "Tools Necessary for Creating a Spiritual Environment in the Home."
1-Cut out Contention(hold up a mini-saw)

2-Stick together in times of trial.(hold up a bottle of glue)

3-Nail down a time for Family Homne Evening(hold up a hammer & nail)

4-Read the scripture daily together as a family.(hold up a clock or a calendar)

5-Round out the week by attending church as a family)hold up the tool that makes circles???)

Then I had each person write down the answer to this...."Things I can do now to increase the spirtuality in my home"

This quote was also on the handout, "happiness is the result of Home Improvement"

Display A PICTURE OF THE TEMPLE, THE Savior, A Family, SCRIPTURES, church magazines, good music CD's, church videos etc. Ask... "What environment would these items create?...a spirtual environment in the home.

Well between the items Joanne & I gave you, you will probably have too much stuff now!! Good luck!!
