It does sound like she is hurt. Is it possible for her to take vacation time so that she can be home all day with the kids on their visit? I agree that you should try to explain about the hazzards in her yard.

I urge you not to ignore the e-mail. Maybe write her and tell her you are sorry as it sounds like you inadvertently hurt her feelings and didn't mean to. Maybe things haven't always been good in your family, but it truly sounds like your mom is trying now. You can't erase the past, but don't quit on the future.
