Subject: Laura (Chris's Mom)....

You made me cry with your sweet words. I don't even know what to say. It was incredible to read your post. I wish you lived closer because I think YOU are one of the nicest, easy-to-get-along-with, warm and caring people that *I* have ever met -- I genuinely mean that.

And, on another note, I'm totally with you on being freaked out by the tick! I found one on Alex about a year and a half ago, and I was completely undone by it. It was the day of Colby's Christening and I was changing her into her fancy dress -- the tick had dug itself in so I couldn't get it out; my MIL (Sally -- who you've met) is a nurse and she was in town and she couldn't get it out either. Alex was crying because it hurt when we were trying to remove it; I could barely SEE I was crying so hard. Anyway, the doctor's office/clinic we go to is open on weekends for emergencies so they were able to remove it with a special tool. In a way, I was glad it happened in the middle of all the commotion of the Christening day because there was lots of family around and I didn't have too much time to dwell on it. Even so, I was completely freaked by it -- I still get the squirmies just thinking about my poor baby girl! I'm so glad you had your mom to empathize with you -- all our family/friends were supportive, of course, but they thought I was overreacting. So I totally know where you're coming from. It's not the objective reality -- the likelihood of Lyme disease is so low in this situation -- it's entirely the emotional reality and Mama Bear instincts emerging (How DARE that tick hurt MY baby?!).

Anyway, HUGS for being an amazing friend and amazing mom!

Pauline
