In reply to: 4grant 's message, "I golf, and so does Grant (m)" on 17:45:25 04/15/03 Tue

that Grant is adorable! I love those pics. He looks like he was having a great time.

We ended up getting him a golf set today (before I read your post). The pro said it was a good set. They only sell it at Dick's, I guess (it isn't even online there yet, but if you have a Dick's you could look). It is brand new this year. But it is the Acuity Cadet Line. We chose it over the US Kids set because it seemed to fit Ryan better. The US Kids set seemed to be either too small or way too big. He seemed to swing the Acuity set really well. There was a 4/5 iron a 7/8 iron and a P/S iron as well as a fairway wood and a driver. It also had a putter and came with the bag and stand. It was 100 dollars for the set. In the Acuity set, the fairway wood was a great size for him to start with and the other clubs are a just a little too big for him, but will still work. I think they will be good for him for a couple of years. I think he could have used the US Kids set this year, but it was boardering too small, and the other one just seemed exceptionally too big. Did I do the wrong thing?? I mean I can take them back, but I don't think he needs to have Nike clubs or anything. Those are like 40 bucks a piece and don't come in a set! Oh and Taylor Made has a line of clubs. I tried looking for review of clubs online and couldn't find anything. All of the Junior sets I found said, "made especially for kids, not cut down from adult clubs." Who knows?

Here is some stuff it says on the box:

Deep-faced, oversized driver w/ enlarged hitting area, is more forgiving w/ a deeper, wider sweet spot.
Fairway wood features "rail technology" to promote stability and carry from tough lies.
Flextech shafts are specially designed to maximize club-head speed for younger golfers.
4/5, 7/8, and P/S oversized hybrid irons combine distance & accuracy.
Vibration-dampening insert adds feel to irons while copper weighting enhances carry.
Club weight is concentrated behind the club head for greater distance.
Designed for smaller hands, Junior Winn grips retain the soft feel of pro-style Winn grips.
Polymer insert mallet putter provides maximum feel
Deluxe stand bag has dual straps, designed especially to be carried by younger golfers.

And don't worry about the having fun part. That is a given! I definitely wouldn't want him doing it if it was a chore. He really loves it. We haven't tried teaching Ryan about grip or stance. We may get him a set of lessons this year though. The pro here will give a lessons package (at least 5 playing lessons on the course) for 125 bucks. That isn't bad for golf lessons. I think it will be great. He will love it. No pressure from me. I'm not expecting Tiger Woods, just a little fun!

So, did we choose the wrong set? Thanks for all the feedback!

Heidi
