Subject: The signs of being expose to Lyme disease are....(m)
In reply to: Chris's Mom 's message, "YIKES!! I just pulled a tick from Chris's underarm!!!...(m)" on 07:47:56 04/16/03 Wed

You will usually get a rash with a red outline to it where you got he bite. You can get fever and flu symptoms. It's the tell tale rash that really will tell you though. It should look round with a darker red around the outside of it.

The chance of getting Lyme disease is pretty low in most areas. Check into the area you live.

The next time you go hiking make sure to wear pants, and tuck your pant legs into the top of your socks. The ticks have a hard time climbing all that way up to get to some hair, their prefered bite site. Also some mosquito sprays will keep ticks off. If you are really worried stay out of grassy areas cause these are the areas most ticks care found in. They don't jump down off trees on you or anything like that. They climb up off grasses onto your legs and them crawl up your legs.

We have lots of ticks here but the tick season is not too long and we don't have alot of Lyme disease here so I don't worry. I just check the kids after hikes.

Think of them like a mosquito and maybe you won't get so freaked out next time.
