Subject: I have my mom's old Sears that's over 20 years old. (m)
In reply to: 4grant 's message, "OT: How long should I expect a vacuum cleaner to last?" on 13:09:59 04/04/03 Fri

I like the canister style vac's for most of the house (can do hardwood floors better with them I think). I inherited my Mom's old Sears vacuum and it still works great, but the "connection" plastic piece is broken, so it cuts out every once in awhile - so that's our basement vacuum. I bought a brand new Sears canister vac last year ($350) and I LOVE it - it does a wonderful job of cleaning up everything. We also have a Panasonic upright vacuum (for 2nd floor bedrooms) that I bought refurbished from Panasonic - that's held up for 8+ years and also does an excellent job. (Can you tell I hate dragging vacuums from floor to floor? LOL).
IMO - decent vacuums should last over 10 years.
Michelle
