You're looking at it as a replacement for your Xterra, which this ain't by any means.

The LEAF is a radical departure from anything that's been available before, and you can't look at it as replacing what you have now.

I see it as, for now, a second car. Think about it- if you had one out in the driveway right now in ADDITION to what you already have, and if you had a charger at home or at work, wouldn't you drive it to work? Consider the fact that you never, EVER go to a gas station, why wouldn't you?

Now imagine that an infrastructure is in place all over your area where you could fully charge the LEAF up in about 20 minutes- would you feel more comfortable driving around in it now? Consider too, that all LEAFs will come with onboard Navigation of an interesting new type. It will show you on the screen a circle of where you can drive to on the current charge- and it will include charging stations. (I find that very interesting.) In other words, the circle will become smaller as the charge wears off.

Some areas will have public charging stations before others. The Boston area will be one of the first.

Bottom line, I find this new Nissan to be truly interesting and compelling. And given the facts that the oil will run out sooner or later, and that making gas isn't a good use for a dwindling supply, (fertilizers, plasctics, etc. are more vital), then I see that sooner or later- this sort of car is the future. No matter what.

And when did they ever promise you a fuel cell Xterra? :-)
