NOt bad as a putt-around vehicle, but as I said, useless to someone like me who pulls trailers and is off road frequently. The county I used to work for has 2 of them (Ford Escapes), bought with a "green" grant.

From a public safety standpoint, they are a whole different thing when in a bad crash. Ask a firefighter who has dealt with a hybrid involved in a crash/fire. It sucks.

And on the topic of battery replacement, YES. We had budgeted as suggested by the dealer to replace the batteries at (no later than) the 5 year mark.

It's a hard sell for me when our 07 Passat Wagon can pull my pop-up camper trailer (dry weight 1100 lbs), loaded down with the gear and family, and go down the highway at 70 mph, and getting 26 miles per gallon.

The Nissan hybrid sounds cool, though.
