I purchased a mare who had quite severe sandcrack in her 2 forefeet. My farrier told me it was genetic and nothing much I could do. I put her on a calcium supplement feeding program. Now about 1 year later, there is no sign of sandcrack. The Roman gypsies believe that crack is a sign of mineral deficiency - this is now a commonly held belief.
