What are the chances of organising for the finals to start a little later this year. Some people do work Saturday's and a 4-4:30pm start is too early. Otherwise there needs to be some leniancy.

- NSWSBA affiliation -- Scrooge, 16:45:41 03/02/05 Wed
I am having difficulty understanding what benifits could be realised by the ESSL by being affiliated with the NSWSBA. Is this additional cost just helping the elite players ?
I refer to the AGM miutes where it is reported "discount membership for individual players who also wished to join the Associations membership to enter NSW competitions"
Can anyone out there elaborate on how we will be better off ?

- Time for a change? -- Snookerhead, 22:17:28 07/02/03 Wed
I reckon the format of the Jock Mclean needs a Major revamp.
How about for a start bringing in at least one frame of billiards to each match "up to 150"?
Drop the seeding stuff - who cares if Digby/Render drop to 5 (which they won't) - LEARN from it guys!
Discuss!

- Billy (Don't be a Hero) Evans destroys up and coming Coogee Randwick Superstar -- Malabar Supporter, 11:04:59 07/01/03 Tue
It was a cold night when the Coogee Randwick A team arrived at Malabar. It was going to be a close match even though Digby was not there due to an injury.
The highlight of the night was the number 2 match on table 3. Billy's table. Billy smashed Daniel 2-0 on his home ground. Daniel quoted after the match, "I had a feeling I was going to loose". Oh well, better luck next time.
Coogee Randwick A did end up winning 6-5 but the tides will turn in the finals.
WELL DONE BILLY EVANS

Champion of Champions Results -- Spectator, 09:59:53 06/23/03 Mon
The most sompetitive C of C's ever was narrowed down to 2 Coogee Boys, Alex Render and Peter Quinliven. Well done to Peter in winning the event after a very close final.
The first quarter final saw Peter beat the number one seed, Digby 2-1. Digby did not play to his usual form and Peter played some very good safety.
The next QF saw Colin Tharrat beat Steve McQuilty from Mascot very comfortably.
On the other side of the draw we had a fantastic QF between Joe Tagoa and Daniel Megahey. After beating Craig Riley 2-1, Daniel was sure favourite to win his next match but Joe played exceptionally well to beat Daniel 2-1.
The final QF was between Alex Render and Sam Cucheri. The first frame was close but Alex was too strong knocking in a 63 break to win 2-0.
The first SF between Colin Tharrat and Peter Quinliven was no contest. Peter played too well to beat Colin 2-0 and book a place in the final.
In the other Semi, Alex beat Joe 2-0 to gain his 4th Champion of Champions Final (last 3 in a row).
In the Final, Alex came back well to win the first frame. Peter then won the 2nd frame after Alex went in-off on the black ball. The 3rd frame was very scrappy but tactical. Alex led most of the way and looked like he was going to cross the line but Peter managed to fluke the Pink and get perfect position on the final black. He took his time on a dead straight railer and potted the black to win the tournament.
Well done Peter and bad luck Alex. There wasn't much in it!
Well done also to Craig Riley for getting the Highest Break of 79 against Eddie Howden in his first match.
Good luck to ALL teams in getting to the finals!

Digby Renders Alex and punters speechless -- Crystal Ball, 11:46:18 04/16/03 Wed
What a treat for the punters who were at Coogee last Monday night to watch the two best players in the Jock McLean, Digby and Alex, go head to head against each other. This matchup was eagerly anticipated by all who were there and no-one was disappointed. The expectation was high and both players produced a match that lived up to its billing, and some. It was the best game I've seen, it had all the ingredients that makes for a classic match. Cloak and dagger strategy, excruciating pressure, break building, sensational safety and two combatants with enormous mutual respect for the other. WHEW!!
I find some of your comments on the match puzzling with a hint of bias attached.
First, Digby got his revenge and silenced his critics. What critics? Anyone who knows the type of precision snooker Digby plays would not be a critic, more an admirer. Would he not? So it's obvious whoever was critical of him knows JACK about snooker! Who are these critics? If you have the balls to identify yourself, stand up and be counted and justify them. What better forum to do so!
What revenge? Has Alex defeated Digby previously? If not, there is no revenge to take!
Digby had a very nice slice of lady luck! Hardly! What game were you watching? Both players had a little bit of luck but it had absolutely no effect at all on the outcome! In fact Digby for some unknown reason opened the pack of reds in the third frame and left enough balls open presenting r Alex with a golden opportunity to win the frame, and match! Why? Was it his way of saying how good are you, show me what you've got? We'll have to ask him about that one. So I would say if there was any slice of luck, it definitley went to Alex!
This entry isn't intended to sound like a bias toward Digby, but in my opinion I think he deserved to win. Particularly after being a frame and 24 nil down in the second. I'm attempting to be accurate.
I have to give a special mention to the way Alex was humble in defeat. I'm sure both players got great satisfaction out of the match. There were no losers on the night! With the standard of snooker these guys play EVERYONE WAS A WINNER.
Anyhow, congratulations Alex and Digby for producing a fantastic exhibition of snooker for us that will linger with us for a while. I for one is still thinking about it.

Who is this digby guy - never heard of him? -- Mr A Higgins, 11:04:09 04/09/03 Wed
Keep hearing all this rubbish about some bloke called digby, sounds like a tonker toy to me? Besides I hear he cracks like an egg if the other guy gets 16, a fluke or someone coughs?
You only have to look at the break ladder to see how good coogee A is, not just one player!
Maybe this digby bloke doesn't like breaks over 40?
Bring it on!

- This year's Grand Final? -- Snookerhead, 09:14:11 04/04/03 Fri
So what clubs beside Clovelly are interested in hosting this year's grand final?
I think it would be Malabar's turn - wouldn't do there chances any harm playing at home in the final would it?
And before Coogee Randwick push there toys out of the pram if you think back in 2001 you beat Seals A at home in the grand final so the predecent has been set!
It will be discussed at the next meeting on 7th May - Don't forget to turn up with your clubs $80!

So in round 5 and 6 we see Malabar venturing down to Coogee Randwick - should be very interesting.
The clash between Alex and Digby should be pretty intense!
Where can you buy tickets?
Sorry about confusing you all with Digby name on the site but Malabar are putting him down as Dennis P Christopher!
This year's comp is very close for a change!

I've heard the following from very unreliable sources & friends in low places:
Fabio Rosa to return "home" to the Seals
Daniel to travel south and captain Yarra
Snookerhead to stay sober at the AGM
Maroubra RSL to play one game in 2003
El Presidente to push for two Clovelly teams
Mascot is getting two more tables
Is anyone else aware of any off season rumblings ?
