I am not so sure it is primarily intended as a reward to her Lizzie but more as two fingers stuck up to the local electorate who had the temerity to defeat a Labour candidate.

I must admit I had thought they would have taken the other route to this end by persuading Peter Law to rejoin their ranks but this hasn't happened. Not yet anyway. That would be a real double whammy if it happened - you vote independent and you get a Labour peer and Labour MP!
