Subject: http://www.abertillery.net/oldabertillery/memories.html has Terry Cobner's memories of Abertillery cinemas. I remember the Palace in the 60s well - Saturday morning "pichurs" was my favourite. Started at ~10am. Got your sweets from the shop on the corner of Commercial Street as were cheaper than inside. Cartoons and a film before the break when if it was your birthday you went on stage to collect free tickets. Many kids had birthdays a few times a year! The downside was that everyone would boo and sing "Happy Birthday to you, Squashed tomatoes and stew etc - you were also a target for bumps in school. After the break came the serial after which masses of kids emerged blinking in the daylight. In the 70s, the Scala opened in the old school/Library - much smaller than the Palace with ~ 100 seats. Went with friends to see X-rated Enter the Dragon. Were all asked if we were 18, everyone else lied except me who was honest and said no! - I was 14. They got in , I didn't.
