Subject: The early life of John Smith

Hello, I am trying to find out about the early life of my grandfather, John Smith, who was born in Cwmtillery 1871 and died in Abertillery in 1942. I have been told that he spent some time as a child in America. His parents were John and Maria (Partridge) Smith. He had a half-brother, Joseph Partridge, who kept a shop in Abertillery and another half-brother, Arthur Smith, who kept a shop in High Street, Blackwood. He finally lived with his daughter, Maria Coles (my Auntie Cis), in Alma Street. My cousin, Vi Harris, also lived in Alma Street until a few years ago and my cousins Ernest and Edwin Coles may still be living in Abertillery. If anyone can help me to find out more about his early life then I shall be very grateful.
