Subject: ..lone youth..

Chestnut youth silently enters unknown surroundings. Small dial lifts to examines the new world. Fragile but nimble legs carry her out into the light as her dilcate nostrils take in the new smells. Soft eyes look around for a familiar face, but none are found. Focus drifts to other youths playing in the crisp air. A few small strides are taken in their direction before she stops and slides slightly into the shadows. Shyness takes over features as she stands observing the land.

The dappled sterling mare tore herself away from the green shoots that grew tantalizingly from the shallow, sandy soil. mothering gear full tilt she trots over, ears pinned and head lowered defiantly, barring any confrontation until she discovers the youth's home and parentage. "Hello there little one," she cooed, usually harsh vocals soft and soothing.

Her head lowered to the level of the filly, not drawing any closer. With a pang she remembered the orphan she had adopted oh-so-long ago that had by now disappeared. Shaking her head hard she brought herself back to reality. Wake up Ellie... she reminded herself. "Are you lost?" she asked carefully, not wanting to break down a dam releasing an onslaught of tears.

She stood quietly for awhile. Soon her tiny eyes began to well with tears. "There were people chasing my mother and me and she got caught, so i ran away really quickly," the words tumbles out of her mouth as she stared at the ground.
