Author: Steel Dream
Subject: Fare ye well....
The no-longer-quite-so young stallion gazes out one final time across his beloved home with a distint note of pain in his brilliant blue eyes. Farewell... His chestnut legs begin to set him in motion, moving towards his golden love until he stops abruptly. No. She... she looks so happy, without me. I cannot bear to bring this upon her. If I just go... if I don't tell her... He arches his head down, snapping at an itch on his knee. Then she needn't worry. Needn't bid me to stay, needn't even know I'm gone. Steel raises his head again with a quietly whuffled sigh as he turns away, knowing the chances are that he will never set eyes upon her again. Goodbye, my love, and fare well.
With that he moves into a slowly loping canter, his steps somewhat erratic from the pain his gradual disappearance is causing to him as he moves down the side of the slope leading to the beach... the beach where he had finally asked DOL to be his mate... and out into the water, wading and then swimming for the last time off the Isle.

(do not leave me to drown in solitude) -- (Shazaam), 17:06:04 07/06/03 Sun [1]
(Through the shrouds, the young stallion watched as the stallion he had called father, traversed from the Isle. Shazaam shook slightly. It seemed as if his family was tearing right through the middle. His mother, he had not seen for so long. His lover, had disappeared it seemed. His daughter was no where to be found. And now his father was leaving to god knows where. With an almost half hearted sigh, Shazaam turned from his position, and went at a three beat gate towards the more or less populated area of his home)

*So Long Live The King* -- Lil' Mist, 18:57:40 07/06/03 Sun [1]
*Dark Bay watched from her spot down the beach as she saw the mighty steed enter into the waters a look of farewell upon his brow. Seems there were more leaving then she'd first thought. Sighing softly the bay watched this happen, whickering softly to the air, though she knew her voice would most likly not reach the steed already gone from most sight* "Farewell my king...." *Says this softly before she too turned away*
(*Tears* Awwww...*Sniff* Okies, I'll live, but we'll miss him)

No -- Daughter of Light, 23:47:43 07/06/03 Sun [1]
A whisper reached her ear, faint, surreal. Against the tickling breath, she flicked the listener once before craning her neck to observe the creature whose breath it was. Seeing her own player, the mare snorts derisively and turns away. "I do not care what you have to say, insolent girl. You have left me with no hope, no friends, and no reason to live. Why should I hear your sniveling?" Frowning, the girl, brown hair cut short, answers, "Because this is dearly important to you." The palomino flicks her ears again boredly, cream tail lazily dashing against her side. "It's about Steel," the girl continues. Two golden listeners prick instantly in the brunette's direction, who continues her fierce whispering.
Four beats sound across the territory rapidly, almost blurring together into one solid rumble. Racing into the wind against time, her hated Enemy, the desperate mare hardly notices as the grassy turf gives way abruptly to sand. Churning the sand in a spray behind her, she leaps over a wave into the sea, continuing to run. The water pulled at her legs until they could run no more, but she could just see a dark chestnut speck in the distance. "Steel!" A more heartfelt cry had never been heard by the uncaring waves that crested over her head. "Steel Dream!" she cries again brokenly, aching to see the speck turn and grow larger. Lost in a rush of emotions, she turns from the ocean, legs carrying her back up the beach tirelessly. She veers sharply and resumes galloping up a large hill, which peaked at a cliff overlooking the sea. She must not let that dot disappear from her vision. Never. "Steel Dream, I love you!" her frantic whinny resounds. No... he couldn't go. Rearing fretfully, she paws the air once before wheeling and galloping back down, hooves gashing a new path through the sand. "Steel..." she says quietly to herself, hopelessly, helplessly. Taking no notice of her lathered, now dark coat or matted, salty mane, she forces all of her will into a last, desperate thought, as if thinking it would make it true. Come back, she urges the speck. Please... I love you.

B...Bye... -- Steel Destiny, 09:50:10 07/07/03 Mon [1]
Blinking her delicious amber eyes, she fought not to shed tears at her father's abrupt farewell. Feeling very small and alone in the world, she watched as DOL, the only mother she had ever known, run after her father before stopping. It didn't seem fair to her, that everything should be ripped away so abruptly. She hadn't even spoken to him since she got back.

Impossible -- Steel Dream, 19:36:48 07/07/03 Mon [1]
The sodden stallion turns, moving back towards shore for a moment, his head hanging low and coat soaked and dishevelled, mane dangling limply across his neck. A pair of once-proud amber eyes now are broken with pain and defeat as he looks upon his love. "DOL..." His voice is hoarse as he breathes a long sigh. "DOL, I love you too." He cannot bring himself to meet her eyes. "I love you, more than anything else in this world. And..." the chestnut chokes slightly, staring at the quietly-lapping waves beneath his hooves, the uncaring elements going about their business unaware of the drama around them. "...that's why I have to leave you." Finally Steel manages to meet his beloved's eyes. "Because... because I'm never around. Because I hinder you. Be free, love." If you love someone, set them free. With that he painfully forced his gaze to move away from the slender, stunning palomino and away again across the ocean as his steps take him trudging away.

They don't want to be set free -- Daughter of Light, 20:42:19 07/07/03 Mon [1]
Her despair mingled with concern as he turns. His eyes were haunted, broken. She knew, in that moment, that he was not leaving her selfishly, but out of great sacrifice. Still, her heart burned to run to him as he approached, to feel his touch again, to let that moment never end. When he spoke, her world stopped for him, revolving slowly on his struggling words. With painful understanding in her eyes, she held his own for as long as he would, wanting him to see her emotions since she dared not trust her voice. She was hurt, yes, but she loved him, and understood. A retreating wave sucked at her hooves as her love walked out of her life. Picking up her feet against this current, she turned away, sodden banner hanging limply against her hocks. She could not bare to watch him disappear again. With a step as heavy as her heart, she walks to her son, standing some distance away in the sand. He was the only one who could possibly know what was whirling through her mind, the only one that had been with her long enough to understand.

Gone -- Steel Dream, 09:38:21 07/09/03 Wed [1]
If I drowned... if I slipped under the water... The chestnut stallion, alone now for all the world, swam with less and less energy across the brief span of fairly turbulent water he had crossed many times before. But then he felt the sand again beneath his hooves, lifting him upwards onto the far shore, and the temptation to surrender to the beautiful oblivion of death was no longer dangerously calling him.
And thus he said his final words to his beloved as his heart shattered, no longer able to go on without her. ~*~Goodbye, DOL. I will always love you.~*~ Then he was gone.
