Date Posted: 17:07:11 02/03/03 Mon
Author: River Bend
Subject: His immaculate hide was torn and sodden with blood.
Staggering beneath the fit body he had once carried so gracefully, the young stallion found solace in a sturdy tree. His caramel eyes, whites showing in pain, hungrily ate up the firmiliar scenary until River could prop them open no more and let his legs collapse beneath him. The gallant stallion sunk into a slumber so deep that it would be better classified as a coma.

River? -- Daughter of Light, 21:33:19 02/03/03 Mon [1]
Her brown eyes catch the hint of movement from the corner, and quickly snap to behold her battered son-in-law. A snort of surprise passes through the air, a cloud of breath-mist rising before her. Whinnying for Dusty, the palomino launches into a three-beat towards the stallion, concern written clearly across her face. By the time she had reached him, he was already collapsed into what might as well be a faint. Taking advantage of his situation, she folds her legs beneath her and touches a velvet muzzle to a clean spot on his neck. It would be dangerous to heal him before he awoke, but the least she could do was ease his pain and allow him to sleep peacefully. Thus decided, delicate white tendrils of her power slip through the physical bond, wrapping around the stallion's body before soaking gently into his bruised and bloody hide. That should take the worst of the pain away. She pulls back slightly and stands up, standing guard like a protective dog and waiting for Dusty to come.

*Emmiting a frantic whinny, she prances over to her mate* -- Dusty and Stormy, 22:34:03 02/03/03 Mon [1]
*She ever so delicately lowers her to his, tears shining in her eyes. Folding her legs and laying down in an ungraceful flop, she presses her neck against his, her curly mane draped over his neck. She sighs, looking to her mother* Can.. Can you help him?
Stormy peered from behind DOL, his wide eyes taking in his once tall, proud father somewhat fearfully. What was wrong with him? Was he... dead? He squeals out a short frantic note, his furry ears swiveling all over, his curly body shivering unmistakably.

He relaxed visably, going completely limp. -- River Bend, 22:30:10 02/04/03 Tue [1]
Trapped within the confines of his mind, River was released from the searing bonds of pain and surrendered to the swirling chaos of his battered thoughts.

*Mom* -- Dusty and Stormy, 13:33:46 02/07/03 Fri [1]
Mom, can you heal him? *She repeats her question, a little less upset now that he seemed to be resting easier. Almond lashes frame anxious eyes, and she jumps at the slight pressure on her legs from a certain foal*
He presses himself against his mother's legs, his tiny nostrils flared. "Is diddy ok?" He whispered. Perhaps... Perhaps a swim would make him feel better! It always made him feel good, to splash around in the surf.

Helping... -- Steel Dream, 20:23:28 02/07/03 Fri [1]
The chestnut Welsh Cob senses a searing pain within his domain and sends a gentle probing thought out to investigate. Quickly he discovers it is a badly-injured River Bend. Quelling his own shock he forces himself to remain calm, to take on the task at hand. Gently, as non-invasively as possible, he enters the other stallion's mind, releasing waves of soothing warmth into the tormented soul. He gradually shuts down the pain receptors on a temporary basis; River will not hurt while the Queen effects his healing. Calmly the Cob stimulates the areas of the brain that release endorphins, the hormones that create the feeling of being happy. His logic is that if River Bend feels psychologically better he will be able to cope with whatever has happened to him better... and a little extra happiness can never hurt.

[Sorry I've been so inactive...bah.] -- River Bend, 13:51:00 02/12/03 Wed [1]
Slowly, his endorphine charged alter ego swelled to overpower the cool logic of River's mind. Something like a goofy smile twitched at his normally stoical, pale lips, but there was no other outward sign of life. The absentminded fool now in command of the chestnut's proud thoughts was dancing merrily through an invisible world dominated by rainbows and candy. Deep within his mind, the true River burrowed away, not unlike a bear faced with too harsh a winter.

Slowly -- Steel Dream, 17:52:41 02/12/03 Wed [1]
Gradually he decreases the release of those chemicals that have a tendency to replace the brain with happy pink fluff and gives River Bend a gentle nudge. "Are you feeling ok? What happened?" he asks softly.
[OOC: Yes, he's in two places at once. But I don't want his life to stop just because of the challenge he's got to fight. ^_^]

*Smile* || Huh? -- Dusty || Stormy, 12:54:29 02/13/03 Thu [1]
*She smiles a little nervously. She was dying to know the answer to the questions Steel had just asked, but she merely stayed at his side, eager to comfort and ease his mind.*
The colt was slightly downtrodden that he was being ignored, and promptly wandered away.

Lips still curved in a goofy grin, he opened his eyes and blinked pleasently. -- River Bend, 23:01:16 02/15/03 Sat [1]
"Good morning," he greeted the two worried faces without comprehension. "Is this your island, sir? Lovely place."

Amnesia...? -- Steel Dream, 11:33:55 02/17/03 Mon [1]
His yellow eyes darken with angst as he watches. "Sir, this is Paradise Isle, your home. What is your name?" he asks carefully. If necessary I'll have to find his memories and unlock them for him... but that is a very last resort, and could cause much more harm than good. If River Bend really has amnesia, chances are it is because he has suffered through something his mind would rather not remember.

"My name?" -- River Bend, 15:51:42 02/17/03 Mon [1]

Surprise -- Daughter of Light, 18:40:08 02/17/03 Mon [1]
Light brown eyes widen at the stallion's actions. She knew she hadn't mistaken him for another... What was wrong? She turns a questioning glance to her mate, sending a mental inquiry with it. What is wrong? Can you help him any more? She had caught the majority of Steel's thought, but part of her told her that she had imagined it. Nothing could be wrong with River... Treading carefully, she replies, "That is Steel Dream, and I am Daughter of Light." She points her nose to the other mare and her foal. "Do you know them?"

He winces as River mistakes his own name. ~*~I don't know, DOL... I may have caused this trouble to begin with.~*~ A trace of nausea washes over him as he desperately hopes for some kind of miracle- something that will fix this.

Slowly, the chestnut shifted around and found his feet, a rather ungraceful movement. -- River, 19:25:34 02/17/03 Mon [1]
Having regained the benefit of his height, and after the world stopped spinning, River peered at Dusty and blinked cautiously. Her face did not spring any names to the top of his mind, so he shrugged and grinned companionably, "Have we met, miss?" The polite bow that he offered allowed the stallion view of his bloody, though, thankfully healed, coat, and he cocked his head with impersonal interest, "Goodness, whatever happened to me?"
[Just for future reference, I know that DOL's italics are mindspeak, but is that what Steel's white italics are, too?]

Oh no... -- Dusty, 23:13:01 02/17/03 Mon [1]
*She takes a half a step back, her eyes filling with tears.* R-River? Are you... Are you ok? *Yes, we have met. Oh my god what happened?? She thinks frantically, her mind running wild.*
The colt stands slightly behind his mother. Chester?

He turned from the mess of his hide to peer curiously at the mare. -- River, 23:19:42 02/17/03 Mon [1]
"You must be mistaken, Ma'am, my name is Chester. But thank you for your concern, all the same. I am a bit of a mess, aren't I?" He mused with absentminded entertainment. A dimwitted grin remained forgotten on his face.

The dun mare stares blankly at her mate -- Dusty and Stormy, 23:24:57 02/17/03 Mon [1]
You, you aren't Chester! You're River! And I'm you're mate, Dusty. Don't you remember? *She says, her voice edging toward hysterics.*
The colt took another steps towards his father. "Daddy? Swim daddy?" He asks cautiously. He gave his mother a silly look for being so upset. Daddy was home! She should be happy!

The passionate curly coated female drew only a blank stare. -- River, 23:39:36 02/17/03 Mon [1]
"River? Is that my name? Fancy that. Though perhaps you are mistaken. I've only just arrived here, it seems. I don't think its quite possible for me to have gotten a mate already." His attention was drawn to the charming little colt, and his goofy grin widened, "Daddy? What a queer nickname. Why don't you just call me Chester, good fellow? And I should most enjoy a swim." Matter closed, he tottered drunkenly toward the freezing water, promptly tripped over a tree root and fell sprawled onto the ground. "Whoopsie daisy!"

Be careful! -- Dusty and Stormy, 23:48:39 02/17/03 Mon [1]
But but... *She stammered, mouth agape as the stallion tottered to the water, his son in tow. Who he didn't even remember Tears stung her eyes once more, and she felt so confused and horrible that she just wanted to cry into the shoulder of her mate, but her mate was gone and replaced with this silly stallion whom she didn't know.*
His amber eyes fixed on the fallen form, he bounds over to him, easily leaping the root. "You ok daddy? Do you forget how to swim?"

Trouble -- Daughter of Light, 16:20:21 02/18/03 Tue [1]
With a panicked look at Steel, the mare leaps forward, placing herself solidly in front of the torn stallion. "It's too cold to swim," she suggests firmly. "Maybe we'll all go another day." Planting her hooves in the ground, she stands ready to hold the younger stallion back at any costs. He was NOT getting near that water.

"Aw! I can outrun any current!" The colt boasted, but came obediently to his mother's side.

Trying -- Steel Dream, 21:22:44 02/18/03 Tue [1]
Oh gods... what has gone wrong? What can I do? Endorphins can't cause amnesia... something really awful must have happened to him! He moves quickly to his mate's side, speaking to River Bend. "Chester, would you come with me a moment? I think we should have a word, if you don't mind."
With that he MindSpeaks to the two mares. ~*~I'm going to see what I can do... pray for him.~*~
[OOC: Yup, 'Shlay is right - white italics with ~*~these~*~ are his MindSpeech, and normal italics are his own thoughts. Though DOL can hear some of his thoughts due to their mental connection he created a while back.]

"Certainly, " he replied, complaisantly. -- River Bend, 22:43:06 02/18/03 Tue [1]
Glad enough to go with the flow, River would have, at that moment, made any Daoist proud. Without much elaboration, he backed up a few steps and made a wide turn, heading back toward Steel Dream at a gait best described as "positively plow horse-ish".
