Date Posted: 13:40:35 12/23/05 Fri If Bloomberg wants to see a thug, then he should look in the mirror. The minute this guy got into office,he went right for the jugular of the middle class.First,it was an 18% property tax hike. Then he must have found a book of old,out dated laws and started giving out summones for too many words on a store awning, giving tickets to a pregnant woman siting resting on a subway staircase, and raising parking fines to astronomical amounts for non safety violations.During the strike,he held news conferences denouncing transit workers, which was a slap in the face to all civil servants, which make up the base of the tax paying middle class. Why was he so quick to give Sanitation,Teachers and other city agencies a big raise, especially weeks before the election? Not because of givebacks, but because of votes. If the election had come down to 20 or 30 thousand votes, you better believe 34,000 transit workers would have gotten the asses kissed by him.Since the union didn't have the election as a bargining chip, the only chip was to strike before the holidays. And his argument about givebacks didn't hold water, either. The entire last contract was a giveback, with the MTA crying poverty, lying about finances and that ridiculous $1000 "bonus",that turned out to be less than $500 in many cases, after tax.Pataki can just forgot about becoming president. The man is as usless as a governor, coming out of his hole just to threaten workers with fines.Did he ever bother to help with negotiations or even just lend support? If this is way Pataki runs NY,the he can forget about the presidency. If Pataki wants to prove himself, then go after the MTA,open the books and let and independent auditor tell us how much they really have. And both Bloomberg and Pataki can use the workers fines as a suppository. After they pull their heads out.
