Hey Guys. I finally have my ethernet in my room and I am raring and ready to go. Although I could have sat down and wrote my thoughts about soaps on the computers in my residence halla, 1) I was too busy studying the past three nights and Meeting people and 2) How lame is it to use someone else's computer to chat on a message board or chatroom? LOL.
But anyway, now that classes have started, I am trying to keep a small, daily soap regimen going that consists of Port Charles and Bold and the Beautiful, The Best and One of the Worst Of Daytime(The WORST goes to Passions, hands, feet and legs down). The Bridget/CJ plot is kinda predictable, and the actors have no chemistry, but it's well written and acted, so I'll accept that. And what is up with PC's Avatar? Frons, please pull the plug on this piece of crap already!
But one observation I've noticed is that most college students, despite contrary belief, no longer have a vested interest in soaps. Since I have a VCR, I don't schedule my classes around my soaps(and even if I didn't that would be too impossible anyway). This could be attributed to several things.....
The Hour Blocks: How can someone sit through an hour a day of unbelievable repitition and dialogue for five days a week? It's time to get the new Generation of Soaps into half hour blocks especially AFTER noontime when College Students are probably Finished with their classes or waiting for an hour for another one.
It would be quite novel of MTV to create 4 15 Minutes soaps as a leadin to TRL. Low budget and produced Soap Operas, but well scripted and acted.
Everything's The Same: How many times can we see back from the dead characters or sisters/mother's sleeping with their sister/daughter's boyfriend. HELLO! A new twist could do wonders!
--------
And poor Guiding Light. I don't think Paul Rauch stands an ice cube's chance in hell of saving Guiding Light. It's time to just kill off these dinosaur shows. If they didn't mind killing Another World, surely they wouldn't mind ridding us of the rest of the Proctor and Gamble line, ONe Live to Live and Days of our Lives.
CC's Right. For soaps to thrive, we need new blood. Period. *Hoping CC is busy submitting tons of ideas to Frons's door.*
