It could be tempting! I just hope Frons waits to have a replacement soap before he makes any cancelations. If any lesson needs to be learned its NBC canceling soaps and not replacing them. If ABC gives the 12:30-1pm EST timeslot back to affiliates, they might have trouble getting it back.

That can be said for every demographic!

Affiliates prefer the hour format, they get more advertising time than the 30 min soap. At least thats what I've been told.
I don't believe anything is wrong with the hour format.
A new soap, with new blood behind it, can make it work!
Although clearly all current 8 hour-long soaps have failed using the hour format. They forget what the extra 30 mins. was suppose to do. It was suppose to give more CONTENT to the show, not drag it out with pointless scenes, it was suppose to provide more story time to more characters, instead soaps contiune to use the idiotic system of frontburner/backburner characters/stories. A successful hour-long soap has FRONTBURNER stories for ALL CONTRACT ACTORS! 60 mins a day allows for that to happen. Although the Idiotic 8 have all failed, the viewers are leaving because soaps refuse to do just that!

If you have REAL WORLDs Mary Ellis-Bunim involved they will be HITS! She knows soaps, She was with the Dobson's at SB during that shows glory years.

The new TV season doesn't bring good news either! While GL does move back to an afternoon timeslot in Chicago, GL is being moved to AM day-behind status in Philadelphia and Miami! The AM numbers in Chicago were PATHETIC! GL was litearly getting BELOW a 1.0! So I guess they have nothing to lose by moving it! GL is replacing Martha Stewart in the afternoon, I would imagine her show may be losing viewers due to her scandal, perhaps GL is getting moved to a better timeslot because of Martha's troubles rather than a vote of confidence in GL!

Either kill them or reduce them to 30 mins! A reduction in time will force them to revamp each show into a more compact series. Hopefully resulting in better shows. Can you imagine GL without the mafia and back to being just about the Bauers? Same with DAYS! A show about the Horton family, no sci-fi, just Alice and the kids! GH about the Hospital and its staff! no mafia there either! AMC and OLTL back to their roots is just what viewers want!
One thing is certain, if things remain status quo, a whole bunch of the Idiotic 8 will follow AW to another world! LOL
