I have to agree with you about the whole trend of using the actor's faces. Let's think about this. It's expensive in that the show will always have to change them as actors come and go. Also, who do these faces play to? They play to people who are already fans and already going to watch. I tuned over to GL to see their new opening and those faces meant NOTHING to me as someone who has never watched the show. The faces don't compell me one bit to tune back in; a clever logo/video, great music, a catch phrase (EVERYONE knows "like sands through the hourglass...") are all traits of an opening that might cause someone to tune in again. That said, Susan Lucci is probably a face that could bring in the casual viewer because almost everyone knows her. Some of the seductive poses may do the job too (Sharon Case in Y&R's opening...how did they ever get her to stand in that position without falling??). Anyway just some thoughts on the how's and why's of using faces.

As for AMC's new (old)theme.... A-

I agree that the old, old theme music is much better but I really liked this version a lot. I hated the one they just got rid of and those graphics were just too cutesy. Like TT said, AMC's current use of first names works for me because they all look like signatures which ties into the scrapbook/picturebook theme.

You guys are going to kill me but the ATWT new theme has really grown on me now. I really like it a lot.
