Is it just me, or is Soap Opera Digest a lot more tolerable these days?

Yes, the magazine is far from perfect, but it seems like Digest is getting the news FASTER than the internet and the competitors. That, to me, gets high praise indeed.

Two of the biggest reasons why I purchase Digest? The Joan Rivers-ish fashion column, with the Makeup artist from As the World Turns, the Costume Designer at Guiding Light and a stylist. The comments are brutually honest and a riot to read.

And of course, the second reason is for Carolyn Hinsey's column. She is someone who is clearly interested in the soap opera genre, dishing out her praise and rants. And she's not holding back. A perfect example of this was in a previous column when she told Erika Slezak to "tone it down a notch" as Niki.

The only problem that I have with Digest is that the rest of the magazine still shamelessly panders to the genre. I barely see a bad word written about our "favorite" NBC shows(probably because of Corday's immaturity with the press in previous dealings with the press and NBC is probably shelving out mega dollars for nice words about Passions). If Mike Logan of TV Guide can get away with his sharp tongue, can't Soap Opera Digest get away with the same thing?

But, overall, I am VERY impressed with Soap Opera Digest these days. At least their covers are more original and don't feature "The Shocking Twist that will change (Fill In Blank) Forever" like Soaps In Depth.

And Speaking of Digest, The mag reports that Robyn Richards is returning to her role as Maxie. I, for one, couldn't be happier. Perhaps this will mean seeing less of the big breasted, mini-skirt wearing, "I'm on the pill" teenager that I am so discusted with these past few months. ICK.

It's about time Jill Faren Phelps finally admits when she has done something wrong.
