"A hot commodite writer or producer in the industry will get a development deal with one of the three nets to create his/her own soap opera."
Big problem with this prediction! There aren't
any hot commidite writers/producers still in the biz! LOL!
OK! Yes, ATWT's Emmy winning: Sheffer and Goutman
are hot, but it doesn't appear any of the networks
are even considering launching a new soap. If they
are, I'm sure those two would be asked to submit
a bible.
As for former insiders, any soap would quickly
return to glory if Bridget and Jerry Dobson
were hired.
I'm not one who glorifies Clare Labine, yes she
is talented but she also have made huge
mistakes, OLTL and GL. Sure, she had to deal
with hacks at those shows/networks, but I also
heard from several people I know in the biz
who told me, Labine was very disorganized at
meetings while at GL. Another factor is her
ready-made writing team with her children, whom
I hear aren't as gifted as the mother. LOL
Her greatest achievements are in the past: RH
and GH. Sadly her last chance was the soap
she submitted to NBC and later the GH spin-off she
got shafted by ABC when they went with PC.
Speaking of PC, Dead by September.
GL ratings sink to mid to high 2's by spring/summer,
talk of cancelation, maybe a final episode 12/02.
PSSNS mantains its ratings, DAYS keeps dropping,
possible scenario down the road, 2003, DAYS gets canceled
and PSSNS remains!!!!!! Remember NBC owns PSSNS!!!!
They killed AW before SUBE (a show the co-owned).
ATWT takes over # 2 and then # 1 spot in the ratings!
(this one was more fantasy, although I hope
it happens cause ATWT deserves to be #1!)
