Mrs.Robin.Hodgson

6th July 2002

Dear.

I wish to make a formal complaint about the manner in which my friend miss Sally Kent was treated on her arrival in Canada.

she arrived at Halifax Airport on 15th June 2002 and she underwent a detailed and traumatic barrage of questioning by Immigration Officials. She explained that she was here on vacation and would be staying with me and my family.

She was subjected to unnecessary and irrelevant questioning and detailed scrutiny. All her luggage was unpacked, which was embarrassing and intimidating for her.

After a long journey, all she wanted to do was to meet up with me and go back to my house, but she was detained for almost an hour while she was being investigated and while her luggage was “verified”.

her arrival in Halifax was supposed to be a pleasant experience but instead she was made to feel like a criminal, especially since they took her fingerprints off her credit card without asking her permission to do so. The whole procedure was unnecessarily lengthy wile I waited for her to come through customs, Instead of a joyful greeting, when I saw her, she was in tears and very agitated. This somewhat spoiled what was supposed to be a special time for us.

As a foreign visitor to Canada, she felt that this treatment may have the unfortunate and undesirable effect of discouraging tourists from visiting our wonderful country in future.

Was it because of the G8 summit-taking place in Canada, that extra security measures were allegedly being carried out? but she told me even allowing for that fact, I note that other passengers arriving at the airport on the same flight as miss Kents were not treated to such rigorous procedures. I therefore am of the opinion that hyer treatment was somewhat to do with a value judgment based upon her physical appearance and the fact that she was travelling alone.

I would respectfully suggest that this is not the way to encourage foreign visitors (and possible émigrés) to Canada in the future and I wish to register my absolute enragement at the manner in which she had been treated!!!!!!!!!.

Fortunately, during her stay in Halifax, she was with good caring people to try and sway her shattered nerves, from her ordeal, fortunately she did an enjoyable time for the rest of her vacation.

I would be thankful if you could register my complaints and send me an acknowledgment at your earliest convenience.

Yours sincerely

Robin.Hodgson
