I have lived with fibromyalgia for years -- the all-over achey flu-that-makes-you-want-to-die kind -- and the only thing that has ever helped is a drug called Neurontin, which helps me sleep at night (300 mg usually, more if the pain is bad.) It's an anti-spasmotic, with very few side effects. As a mental health professional I prefer meds that go to the source of the problem (seized-up muscles), rather than secondary ones like depression. Tell your friend to try the local Arthritus supports groups, to do their stretching and slow exercises. As far as "herbalists" taking magnesium slows my symptoms to a crawl -- I am open to e-mails, and am in the Portland OR area. JanK
