hi glenn!
i was going to reply to your post but i had to much to say, LOL!
just finished watching it this morning.
i can't really get angry at Joss for it. sure, it should've been a 2hr finale instead of it being all abrupt but that's not his fault. it's the fault of "our friends at WB". bollocks to the WB! such nerve to actually advertise that. it's their bloody fault we're getting gypped!
i hate finales that are open-ended like that but that seems to be the theme these days from SATC, Friends and Frasier. the only one that actually felt like it really was over was the finale of The Practice.
although i wish it ended on a better note, i actually liked the fact that it ended with Angel and the gang fighting to the end even when they're outnumbered. that's what heroes are supposed to be doing anyway regardless of strength or number. the apocalypse was coming and it wasn't gonna be a happy ending; Joss and David talked about that recently. it was so not gonna be a clean happy ending like that of Buffy's. that's prolly why Angel has always been the better of the two.
i refrained from reading the spoilers from awhile back . i'm really glad i didn't because the surprises were cool:
a) Lorne killing Lindsey
b) Mercedes betraying Angel and sleeping with the enemy(did not see that coming). man, they should have had Mercedes near-naked all the time---maybe the WB bastards would've kept it, :lol
c) Connor showing at the perfect time to save his dad and that's a good way for closure
d) Angel going back to what he is essentially about to kill that dude.
e) even though i had a feeling Wes was gonna die, i didn't know how it was going to happen. this season, since Fred died, i've been wanting him to be put out of his misery but i still cried during his scenes with Fred/Illyria
f) Illyria becoming more and more human emotionally---blasted WB, that had so much plot-potential
g) Gunn doing what he really was doing in the beginning---slaying vamps
h) Angel giving up his chance to be human because that solved the amulet thing
all in all, it felt abrupt but it should feel abrupt anyway because this show was shot down when it was at its best. it was a very dark episode with less humor than usual but you could see how it alluded to the mood regarding the cancellation of the show.
again, i liked how it ended. you know the boys were gonna die fighting and sorry to be blunt but you know that Gunn was gonna be the first to die(he only had 10mins, LOL). as for Angel not becoming human, well, isn't that what Angel has always been about? giving up his own chance for happiness for a cause?
i know it's just a show but i feel really empty now. i felt sad when Buffy, SATC, and Friends ended but the impact wasn't like this. it's so weird to have so much passion for the demise of this show when i'm not even a die-hard Angel fan. heck, i stopped watching when the guy from Roseanne died on the show and only watched if i had Buffy faves drop in like Faith, Spike and Willow. i only became a huge fan when Spike became a regular.
anyway, bollocks to the WB and give Spike his own show or movie!
