According to Littlewood (1981:39), functional communication activities place learners in a situation where they need to use language for a well-defined communicative purpose.
Create a good communication activity and describe it to your classmates. Say which type it is, according to Littlewood.
It MUST be original. Do not copy any activity from textbooks.

The teacher should write words on the board, these words could be for a better use of the activity from the vocabulary leaned by the students in that semester. The teacher should tell the students that she/he will start telling a story and a student that will be chosen randomly by the teacher will continue the story using any vocabulary from the board, then the teacher at any point interrupts that student and chooses another one to continue until all the vocabulary from the board is over.
The teacher then starts telling a story, it can be about anything, and the most interesting is that the story doesn’t have to be correct, because there isn’t a correct one, in fact, it should be a crazy one the student should use their creativity and create using of course the grammar and structures they have learned. The teacher could even give a prize for the one who was more creative, that could maybe motivate them even more to have a better performance.
I believe that this activity doesn’t fit in an exactly type according to Littlewood, but I think it could be a variation of “ Reconstructing story-sequences”. The students won’t have to follow a pattern, once they don’t even know when it will be their time to continue or even what the person before them will say, so I think it is a good activity because they will have to pay attention to what every one is saying to be able to continue the story. And most of all they will have to use words in a different context, an unexpected one such as in real life, when we never really know what we will have to face.
