Subject: TASK 13

Create a good communication activity and describe it to your classmates. Say which type it is, according to Littlewood

The activity consists in a role playing simulated situation with two students (but the activity can be adapted to more students as well). The teacher gives to student A, some instructions about how to get to a imaginary friend who lives in London. The instructions are not complete, there are some missing information such as exact number of the house, for instance. The other student, B receives some other general information about the city, including the directions about how to get to the same neighbour where lives the Brazilian friend, the destiny. Student A must play a recently first-arrived tourist in London (or any other town). This first student takes a cab and gives the instructions to get at his Brazilian friend who lives in the town. The other student plays the taxi driver, who does not know exactly where the destiny is. Both students have to share information in order to get to the destiny. At the same time, they might share different information about Brazil and England. The taxi driver may ask about Brazil, and at the same time, introduce the tourist to some tourist points in London. On the other hand, the tourist can ask about the cultural movements that are going to happen in the town. Both students are free to talk about the subjects they prefer. The taxi driver, for instance, can talk about the places he/she likes most. The tourist can ask about cultural manifestations that he/she likes most.
This activity is about pooling information to solve a problem, accoreding to Littlewood. In this case, the students do not know the spot of destiny. Actually, they do not have exact information about the destiny, they must be looking for the Brazilian friend’s house and at the same time, must be talking each other as in real life. Therefore, they have to share information in order to solve a problem. The backgorund can eithr be given by the teacher or be previously researched by the students.
