ACTIVITY

Imagine you are part of an edition team of an important TV News Programme. In this News programme you have 3 presenters. One extremely formal, one is just formal and the other is a little bit informal. You have to:

· Search and select the main information to be announced. Remenber! It is a simplified version, focus it mainly in highlights. Suggestion: Look for updating information about some of these categories: Politics, Business/Economy, Education, Nature, Local News, International News, Crime, Weather, Sports and so on. You can use Internet sites or magazines to help you (see list below). Pay attention in which kind of language is used in each situation.

· Invent a name to the programme. You also can include jingles, ads and even short interview(s) in your programme. Use your creativity to bring visual, audio effects to your presentation.

· Choose the presenters that will present each one of the news (invent names for them). Take a look in the names given to some TV presenters: comentator (who describes sports event), News reader (who reads the news), anchorman/ anchorwoman (the most important person in a Team of News presenter), chat show host (who interviews guests in chat show), weatherman/weatherwoman (who presents weather forecast), presenter or compere (the person in charge of a game show oir quiz show), narrator (voice your hear in documentaries)!

· Role-play this programme you have created to your classmates. Everybody in the group must participate orally of this presentation. Each group will have 20 minutes for whole presentation.

· You have 2 more classes to prepare your presentation. Do your best and Good Luck!!!

Comments

I tried to develop an activity in which learners could have the chance to experience a real-life situation. I´d like each student could build (by yourself or sharing information with colleagues and teacher) a meaning for English learning, according to his interests and/or needs. My intention was offering a task in which students could not only know about something but also put practice what they´d learned. I hope this activity can reach these aims. That’s all!!
