ASK STUDENTS TO READ THE TEXT CALLED “TRICK OR TREAT”. IT’S A ROLE-PLAY ACTIVITY. AFTER THEY READ THE TEXT, HAND OUT THE CARDS WITH THE CHARACTERS AND WHAT THEY SHOULD DO. THERE ARE 6 CHARACTERS. EACH STUDENT SHOULD PLAY ONE OF THEM. (IF YOUR CLASS IS BIGGER THAN THAT, YOU CAN ASK OTHER STUDENTS TO PLAY GUEST 3 AND GUEST 4.) GIVE THEM A TIME TO PREPARE AND ASK THEM TO ROLE-PLAY.

Now, it is time for a Halloween story… Be prepared…

TRICK OR TREAT

It’s a Halloween night and there is a small party going on. Just some friends, but everybody is having a great time. The music is loud inside and the night is dark outside. Suddenly a scream is heard... it came from the backyard. The host is the one who shouted. Something strange happened there. The guests run to help. They find the host lying on the ground, whispering something. One of the guests listens; he/she arrived at the scene before the others. The host faints. Another guest runs to call one of the guests, the one that is a doctor.
The guests start to talk, trying to figure out what
just happened there. The ambulance arrives quickly. The doctor wants to know what
happened.


Now, you will receive a card. The card will tell you the role you will play at this “party”.

Host - You are throwing a Halloween party at your house. You decide to play a little joke on your friends. You go to the backyard alone and stay there for a little while. Then you shout really loud so everybody in the house would listen. You notice that somebody is coming and pretend to be falling down. The person gets near you. You whisper “the stars”. Why “the stars”? You were looking up at the sky and saw the stars. No special reason. Pretend to faint. A doctor arrives and asks questions about what happened to you. Nobody knows what really happened, so they will probably tell what they think had happened. Wait until everybody says something. Wake up and tell them that everything was a joke.

Guest 1 - (the one that hears the whisper)You are going to the kitchen, and when you are passing by the backyard door, you hear a scream. You go there and see the host falling on the ground. You run to help. Somebody else comes. The host whispers: “the stars”. A doctor arrives and asks everybody what happened. Tell him what you know.

Guest 2 -(the one that calls the ambulance)You hear a scream, go to see what happened. You find the host lying down and two guests with him. One of them asks you to call a doctor. You ask people to turn the music off because you need to use the phone. You call one of your friends, who is a doctor and lives next to that house. On the phone you say you need him to go there quickly, because somebody fainted. You give them the address. When they arrive you receive the doctor. You tell him that the only thing you know is that your friend fainted, and he/she is lying in the backyard.

Guest 3 -You are in the kitchen when you hear a scream. It comes from the backyard. You run to see what happened. Somebody got there before you. You see the host lying on the ground and one of the guests beside him/her. You wonder if the host was attacked, maybe by an animal, maybe by a person. A doctor arrives and asks everybody questions. Tell him what you know.

Guest 4 - You are dancing and the music is so loud that you can hardly hear anything else. Somebody asks you to turn the music down. You hear this person talking on the phone about somebody that fainted. You wonder if somebody is feeling sick. You notice that everybody is in the backyard and go there too. You see the host fainted. You are puzzled. What has happened? The bell rings. It’s the doctor. He asks everybody what happened. Tell him what you know.

Doctor - You talk to somebody on the phone. You write down the address. When you arrive, somebody receives you. It seems that a party was going on before you arrived. You go to the backyard to attend the person that fainted. But you want – and need – to know what happened. Ask people questions.

Imagine another end for that story and write it down (about 20 lines)
