Hello people,

Genre-based approach is a methodology for teaching how a text is arranged and creating meaning in its particular context of use. Genre-based approach emphasizes texts instead of sentences. The purpose is to rise students’ awareness of a genre. Thus, they will be able to develop literacy across the variety of genres that they encounter in school and non-school environments.

A genre-based approach focuses on authentic texts that represent genres that are used outside the language classroom. In addition, It points outs the necessity of working with previous models of texts in order to exemplify to students how to write a text in a particular genre. Finally, a genre-based approach intends to make students understand the purpose of genre and its place within a variety of genres. Moreover, this allows students to deal with language shifts of various kinds.
