Subject: Task 9

Explain with your own words what a task-based language learning approach is.

The aim of a task-based language learning approach lesson is to allow students to be able to use the language in focus in a meaningful context.
Language is used as an instrument of the learning process through tasks, having their focus on meaning more than on form. Tasks are supposed to reflect real life situations through games, problem solving activities or even by sharing experiences. Tasks need to make students feel the need to learn and use the language in focus, they work as a chance for them to acquire language. The teachers’ role is more of a mediator and helper, what shouldn’t prevent learners from practicing English as they would use their native language in their everyday life.
Classes have to be adapted to the students’ levels and they should help students develop their language skills as well as to organize information they may obtain from real data.
