Task 9
Explain what a task-based approach is. Describe its main characteristics.

Task-based is the approach that helps students to acquire communicative competence through the completion of tasks. The tasks should be carefully graded, neither to difficult so it would not discourage the students nor to easy that would not promote learning. Meaning is the primarily concern of the task rather than the form, since meaning is responsible for encouraging the learner’s system to develop. Students are encouraged to interact using the target language to fulfill a meaningful task. It also should prepare students for real life situations, so it should imitate real life situation. The use of authentic material is preferable.
