Task 9
Explain what a task-based approach is. Describe its main characteristics.

Task based learning requires learners to develop their communicative competence in order to complete tasks or graded activities. In fact, the tasks should be carefully graded, while students are focusing on the process of performing the task, it can be became more complex. A communicative syllabus should be constructed according to the difficulty of the tasks required of the learner at different stages in a course and the teachers should create a learning environment to the learners that cannot be recreated in the normal classrooms. Furthermore, the use of authentic material is preferable and the organization in Pre-task activities, task cycles, and feedbacks are essential to the tasks.

Main characteristics
- Students are aims to interact in order to fulfill a task.
- The tasks are pedagogical.
- Interrelation between accuracy and fluency.
- Teachers induce students to make decisions.
- The tasks are focusing in meaning rather than on form.

Thus, task-based approach should be designed to provide students with the opportunity to want something.
