Explain with your own words what a task-based language learning approach is.

Task-based learning (TBL) is an approach which emphasises the tasks, not the structure, that is, the teacher provides the students a task they have to perform or a problem they have to solve, instead of focusing on language structure. TBL also requires the students to achieve a goal that is usually expressed by a noticeable result. Therefore, in the task-based language learning approach students have a purpose and the tasks have often some sort of visual focus; pictures, for instance.
According to Willis (1994), the Task-based learning presents three basic stages:
Pre-Task: teacher gives explanation about vocabulary and task instructions.
Task Cycle: students perform task; teacher observes performance.
Language Focus: examination of the task and feedback to students.
