Olga Moudraia defines Lexical Approach as a grammar-based approach that provides the proficiency development through lexis, word and word-combination. According to her the key principle of a lexical approach is that "language consists of grammaticalized lexis, not lexicalized grammar." In this manner a language should not be break into smaller pieces than words, but it would be perceived as a large and more holistic subject; language must be considered in its natural occurrence. She points out that lexis surpass the vocabulary because it consists not only of single words, but also for its combination, which is much more complex. Moudraia emphasizes the importance of making learners able to comprehend and reproduce lexical phrases (words, polywords, collocations, institutionalized utterances, sentence frames and heads). In addition to that she reports to Lewis many times to express her notions about lexis and its definition as the basis of a language. Among the most interesting aspects of her work there is the presentation of the element called “chunk” (expressions that occur frequently in spoken language) that must be highly suggested in learners´ tasks. Thus, the syllabus in this approach must be focused on words; their meanings and common phrases expressed in common words in the most natural environment as possible. Furthermore, it was make clear that in the Lexical approach there is a significant re-ordering of the programme; according to students level. It was said that the problematic aspect of this approach is related to the course time, if it is a short course learners may not be able of learning the grammar properly once they have to get a certain set of phrases at the end of it. But this problem can be solved if this approach is combined to others, which includes teaching and learning of grammar.
