Subject: TASK 7

Communicative Approach – Task 7

Stephen B. Ryan wrote "Overcoming Common Problems Related to Communicative Methodology" http://iteslj.org/Techniques/Ryan-Communicative.html ]

Analyze the following lesson plan having Ryan's text as reference.
http://www.lessonplanspage.com/OConsumerEdBuyCar912.htm

Comparing karlys Wells lesson plan with Ryan’s text, I come to the follow conclusions. The feedback that the teacher will give it seems to be a kind of assessment since he explicit defined the grades of the activity.
The activities goal is clear, it is defined in the beginning of the plan. He set the class subject, the activities purposes and what is the language used.
As Ryan says, it is important in a communicative course that the students feel comfortable and self confident to speak freely, and he points out that student needs a routine to do it so. In the lesson plan we see that it is following a framework, a routine very well defined. We only have one class plan, so we do not know if this routine is the same to every. He divided the class in phases: a research phase, a decision making phase and a sharing phase.
Some points that Ryan establish in his text like how the relationship between the teacher and the students should be, the consistency in the teaching style, the cultural awareness we cannot check with the lesson plan. What we can see is that the objectives and the steps to reach them are clear in the plan, but we do not know if the teacher makes it clear to the learners. To finish, the class involves different stages with different media, and the students have to interact a lot with each other, what I think is very important in a communicative course.
