Task 07

Contextualization

The lesson plan supposed to be analysed has three main parts, that is, Title, Heading and the Body. This latter part is subdivided into three phases. Phase one has two steps, Phase two has 4 steps and Phase three has four parts: 1 step, Tools, Analysis and Publication.

Analyse

The text available to support the analyse is related to communicative methodology. Although the lesson plan does not mention which methodology should be present supporting the class, I think it is the communicative one because students are expected to make a lot of interaction.
This analysis is presented by putting the six areas in evidence with comments about each area as below:

AREA 1 – PROVIDE ADEQUATE FEEDBACK

I think that feedback may be found in Research Phase (step 1) and Decision-making Phase (step 4). Before reading the text “Overcoming Common Problems Related to Communicative Methodology” I had another and limited idea about feedback, that is, feedback would be a critical comment from the teacher principally – or from a student – about one’s work or performance. But, according to the text cited above, feedback may also be traditional test, weekly quiz, answers written on the blackboard and collaborative work with a partner. And, as we can see in the lesson plan, Research Phase (step 1) includes a brainstorm session, which may involve writing answers on the board, and Decision-making Phase (step 4) involves collaborative work. Although there are two instances of possible feedback, I think it is lacking feedback from the teacher to students about each phase or about, at least, the complete project.

AREA 2 – CLARIFY GOAL

I think this area is well explored throughout the lesson plan, because students can know what to do, how to do it, and what it is for. But there is something I could not see: the date for concluding the project and for concluding each phase.

AREA 3 – HAVE CONSISTENCY IN TEACHING STYLE

This area seems to be related to the teacher performance. While I was reading the lesson plan, I could not see any sign related to this area.

AREA 4 – LESSON NEED A ROUTINE OR FRAMEWORK

The contents in this area refer to an activity which gives the learners condition to accomplish their task. I could not see any information that fits Presentation, Controlled practice, Free practice and Feedback. The only one information I could make a link to this Area is the step 1 in Research Phase. The brainstorming class may be linked to the Warm-up moment in this Area.

AREA 5 – HAVE CULTURAL AWARENESS

I could not see any clear sign of cultural item in the lesson plan. Only one thing called my attention: the term “use low mileage” in Decision-making Phase – step 3. I am not sure whether it is cultural item or not, but it called my attention because I know what is a mileage, but I can not see the sense of “use low mileage”. It may be something related to some specific people or culture.

AREA 6 – LESSON NEED A ROUTINE OR FRAMEWORK

As I have told in Area 2 above, the lesson plan does not mention dates for concluding the activities neither informs students what to do when they have a doubt. So I think it is lacking information about this Area 6.
