YOUR TASK IS:

According to Littlewood (1981:39), functional communication activities place learners in a situation where they need to use language for a well defined communicative purpose.
Create a good communication activity and describe it to your classmates. Say which type it is, according to Littlewood.
It MUST be original. Do not copy any activity from textbooks.

The situation is presented by the teacher: a qualified and well known Manager of a Bank is acused to pay money for the government agent in order to avoid paying the right tribute. The idea is that the “given” money was to “close” the agent's eyes for the fraude.
I thought about dividing the class in 2 groups: one will be the defense, which will present information for the guilty man and the other will present only information against him. The students can choose which group they prefer.

It is not a real trial but a similar simulation. Two persons that don’t belong to any group will judge the best information support and will decide the sentence.

This is an activity where students can develop their imagination, thoughts and mainly, they practice communication without anything prepared in advance. Students act spontaneously according to their opinions. The activity promotes a good interaction.

Level - to students who already have a good knowledge of the language so they can give rich information and opinions for the subject.

Time of the activity – depends on how many students there are in class. I consider this activity can't take longer than 50 minutes, therefore, it will get boring. The best time to finish is when the discussion is “burning” (and the interest is very high).
