Descriptions

Level: Basic
According to Littlewood, I think this activity can be classified as “Sharing information with unrestricted cooperation”.

After the teacher works with vocabulary about descriptions, he will introduce the follow communicative activity:

- It is a very funny activity. The teacher will chose some famous people’ s name, according to characteristics groups, like:
Football players: Ronaldinho, Romário, Maradona...
Singers: Caetano Veloso, Gabriel o pensador, Frank Sinatra...
Politics: Lula, Antônio Carlos Magalhães, FHC...
TV: Regina Duarte, Miguel Falabela, Camila Pitanga...
The names can be chose according to class’s interest, age, etc.

- The activity will occur with everybody stand up.

- The teacher call every student in front of the class and give for him a new name. First he shows to the class the new name, so he put the every name on the back of every student, one by one.

- Now everybody knows the new identity of everybody, however, nobody knows his/herself identity.

- The teacher ask to students walk through the class and help his friend identify him/herself talking about his descriptions. The students shouldn’t give all the characteristics to the same person, he should round the class giving just two or three characteristics for every person.
Eg. If you meet Camila Pitanga, you say: “You have green eyes, black skin”
If you meet Lula, you say: “You come from of the poor family”

- Every student will heard several information comes from of everybody, so he/she will discovery who him/herself is.
- When the students discovery who he/she is, they will form groups according the same.
- Every characteristic group will discuss about the subject that they are in commom, and present to the class.

I have chose this classification (Sharing information with unrestricted cooperation) because occur an interaction with a aim so is “more realistic”. The learners need solve his/herself problem asking to others about his personality and he need help the others describing, suggesting. This activity work relationship, communication and give opportunities to be creative with the language that they have acquired.
