Subject: Task 13

TASK 13

This activity is based on “Discovering Secrets” pattern. It was imagined for a group of students of the basic level (Basic I or Basic II), and they are around twelve years old.

Every student receives a card (a small one) which he/she CAN NOT SEE. This card must be fixed on the student’s back (by doing this, every other students will be able to see what is written on the card less the owner!) – another option is to ask the students to bring a cap for the classroom so the card can be fixed on the cap!

On this card we can write a great variety of things like names of professions, names of famous people, names of movies and so on. The main point is that the student cannot see what is written on his/her card.

The student’s task is to discover what is written on his/her card by asking appropriated questions (and interacting, and using the foreign language) with the classmates. It is important to notice that some questions are not allowed. For instance, if we are working with names on the cards, students cannot ask ‘Who am I?’. Questions must follow the pattern of ‘What do I do?’ or Where am I from?’ and so on.

Many funny situation can appear if we make a selection of subjects (for the cards) that has some relation to group.

This activity can be done in a different way: One student is being arrested and accused of something he/she does not know. In other to defend himself/herself he/she has to discover what he/she is being accused of (by asking questions and this way, interacting with the group).

The teacher must act as a mediator in these activities because many times the students what to make questions they do not know yet or maybe they can produce wrong structures, which the teacher has the opportunity TO REAPET IN THE RIGHT WAY.
