Task 13

This activity can be adapted to all levels. It will depend on the texts you choose for the activity. I think this exercise can be classified accordingly to Littlewood’s Communicative Language Teaching as “sharing and processing information – reconstructing story-sequences”.

Choose two or more texts (the quantity and length of the texts will depend on the numbers of students in the class) accordingly to the level of your students. Write each paragraph of the texts in small cards and hand them in to the students so each students will have one card with one paragraph written on it. Give them 1 or 2 minutes to read the paragraph and memorize it then take all the cards back. Now the students have to walk around the class asking questions to their colleagues in order to discover which text each one read. They have to ask about the the content of the card and answer in their own words what they memorized. When they start finding similar stories to the one they had they will form groups and discuss the story to be sure it is the same one. Then they have to write the story with their own words. This activity will provide students the opportunity to interact with their colleagues and practice the language by asking and answering questions. The teacher acts like a helper, he/she guides the students and sometimes helps them with the kind of questions and answers they must speak.
