How we can test communicative competence?

We can test communicative competence by inserting the students in real life activities and tests. Structure is important, but to test communicative competence the main target of the test should be the communication. There must be checked if the student can send and receive input appropriately, establishing real communication. According to the text, this kind of procedure can even stimulate the interest of students by the language learning, as they will perceive that they are communicating and being evaluated by their competence in such feat.

To test such thing, the activities proposed to the students should follow communicative approach and be coherent with what will be requested in the test. For instance, if the test will require the students to be able to engage in a conversation to exchange information about locations, they must practice this kind of activities in classes.
