Explain what a lexical approach is. Describe its main characteristics.

The Lexical Approach consists to make “multi-word prefabricated chunks”. This isn’t as a traditional grammar and vocabulary but this method worries to concentrate the attention in each part of the words or phrases, these chunks.
The learner can respond in an effective way, when he/she can recognize a phrase in the target language’s speech.
The more common and fixed expressions like “what is it?”, “how are you?”, “I am fine.” can be good examples for this approach. When a student learns these words in these sentences, she/he can understand their collocations in different situations of the language.
The main characteristics of lexical approach:
· The grammar/vocabulary dichotomy is invalid
· Collocation is used as an organizing principle
· Successful language is a wider concept than accurate language
· The Observe-Hypothesize-Experiment cycle replaces the Present-Practice-produce paradigm
· Most importantly, language consists of grammaticalised lexis - not lexicalised grammar
