Explain what a lexical approach is. Describe its main characteristics.

Since I didn't had much time to digest the lexical approach theory, I'm going to quote: "this approach tries to keep language in larger chunks, rather than dissecting language into its constituents. At a basic level an exchange such as 'How are you? Fine, thanks. And you?' would be taught.

The Lexical Approach develops many of the fundamental principles advanced by proponents of the Communicative Approach. The most important difference is the increased understanding of the nature of lexis in naturally occurring language, and its potential contribution to language pedagogy.

Another main characteristc of such an approach is that it consider language to be consisted not of traditional grammar and vocabulary but often of multi-word prefabricated chunks."

This would be the place and the time to add some comments criticizing the Lexical Approach. Unfortunetely I'm going have to leave it the way it is.
