EXPLAIN WHAT GENRE-BASED APPROACH IS.

Genre-based approach is a kind of methodology which teaches language through the reading and writing of texts in its particular context of use. Its emphasis is on texts, not sentences.That is the reason why genre-based approach goes beyond traditional literacy pedagogies. The aim of this approach is to show to students that there are a lot of genres of writing and each one demands specific generic structure and grammatical features in order to achieve a communicative purpose. Analyzing these elements in a text, we can say its genre.

The genre-based approach just works with authentic texts that represent genres that are used outside the language classroom. This approach requires that before students are asked to write in a particular genre, they should be exposed to the genre by reading, analyzing and discussing examples of it.

Through genre-based approach, students can improve their literacy across a variety of genres and to know how to deal with shifts of various kinds of genres. In addition to it, they can develop vocabulary and language features.
