Subject: Task 11

Genre-based approach has been used by Brazilian teachers for a long time. Every time I teach a group of business men Business English, I´m using genre-based teaching.
Business texts, especially the ones used in most Business English courses, generally use a specific genre.
The genre-based approach teaches beyond the formation of correct sentences, but also the coherence between sentences. More than just learning how to speak or
write sentences, the speaker must give them coherence of ideas.
This is very clear when reading, or write, a paper for the unversity.
That doesn´t mean that only people in the position of
writing scientific papers should learn about genre. The approach has been successfully applied in all levels in the Australian schools, even in kindergarten.
There is no reason that basic students may not benefit from singing and reading poetry.
