TASK 12

Book: New Ace
Level: Basic

· Aim: Ask and give information about addresses
Identify places
· Language Focus: Simple present, vocabulary about directions

Part I
Ask students to tell, how they can describe their route to arrive at school.
Show them some pictures about directions
Teach how to say these directions in English, and how to use them.
Part II
Using a map they must to practice the directions. (Writing activity)
Part III
Team Game: Form groups of two or three, ask them to stand in front of the class, and to have their back to the blackboard. Give them some commands like turn left, turn right, go straight ahead, etc. The student who doesn’t make the movements correctly is out of the game. The last game is over when the last member of one of the groups, go out.

According to Littlewood (1981:39), functional communication activities place learners in a situation where they need to use language for a well-defined communicative purpose. In this activity presented teacher ask students to describe their own directions to arrive at school, according to the types presented by Littlewood to discover sequences or locations is one communicative activity among many others. Besides it has the purposes of communicative activities, which are to provide whole-task practice; to improve motivation; to allow natural learning and to create a context, which supports learning.
