Subject: TASK 7

Analysing this lesson from point of view of Ryan's text "Overcoming common problems related to Communicative Methodology", my comments are that this lesson has good and bad points. First of all, I think the topic (to buy a car) is interesting because I live in a society which puts a car on the top of social values. However, I’m not sure whether other cultures treats a car as we do, for them this topic can sounds strange. The brainstorm can be a good idea of warm-up activity, but I think it is not enough because again it is not concerning about student’s cultural values, as Ryan says ‘It is important for the teacher to recognize potential negative culturally based perceptions of their learners and vice versa.”.
About the RESEARCH PHASE, I think that advising the students to make research on internet is a good idea, and I also agree with some of my colleagues who suggested another midias such as : magazines, newspapers, etc.
About the interaction between students, I think that group and peer works are very good opportunities to learn language and Wells uses it in a very good way.

Concluding, Ryan’s text is very interesting and again through Menezes’ class brought to me news aspects of teaching ESL, as a coincidence today I was reading about programs of teaching English abroad, and it was fun.
Finally Wells’ class is very interesting but I’m not sure if it is a perfect example communicative class. I think that the four skills were reached through this example of class, but I’d like to see it with more emphasis to the speaking skill.
